Vindicated may not have been the best choice of words, but you get my drift.

I always felt bad for Bill, who otherwise had a fine career, but will
always be remembered for one that got under his glove.  I've played
enough infield to know that sometimes these things just happen - it's
never mentioned, but I think that ball took an odd hop - didn't come
up as high as he expected.  Poor guy;  what a legacy!

Anyway, hopefully, that unfortunate incident will be put to rest
assuming the Bosox win the Series.
