It probably would be for me. I use the SMC f2.8 105mm and feel
it is too sharp even wide open for my portrait tastes in some
lighting situations. Your macro is likely sharper. The 105mm
does not focus close enough, a problem you won't have. If you go
to a non-macro for portrait, the SMC T160 close-up lens affixed
can help. It takes just an edge off the sharpness but not enough
to make much difference. Be sure to use a hood. The T160 really
helps the focus distance with the infinity setting now at head
and torso range and close focus at a tight crop showing about
80% of the head.
There was a discussion some months ago about portrait sharpness.
The majority voiced a preference for as sharp a picture as
possible. Some of these sharpness enthusiasts suggested printing
softer if desired.
