I heard a peice on CBC a while ago on this very subject.
This is, apparently, one of those areas where the statistics mislead.
If you take away the very high infant mortality rates, things look a lot better for ancient man.
Anyway, it's just something I heard on the radio. I don't know if it's true or not.
