AFAIK Ilford used to make a film on thin base for journalists, it
allowed them to shoot longer before changing film. I think at least
HP5 (or maybe it was still HP4) was made on this base. I can think it
was abandoned due to too much scratches or maybe static.

Nowadays, I found one iso 50 "no-name" movie stock (probably of Ilford
origin) which is on a thin base allowing the 72 frames into a normal
casette. Apparently, the base is made of some superb movie material
because even though so thin it can't be teard however hard you try,
you have to use scissors. If it was iso 400 I would be happier though
;-(

So yes, there are thin base films there.

Good light!
