I have learned that it is very hard to trust others photographers' judgements of lenses. People have different perceptions of what is not sharp. People may look only at an image onscreen, or in small prints, and pronounce a lens sharp.
I use my primes in low light, and need them to be useable wide open. I typically make prints on 8-1/2 x 11 inch (A4) paper of images that I like. This is where the FA* 24 disappoints in its wide apertures.
People will say that a lens is sharp. I found out that if I inquire about sharpness wide open the person will not have evaluated the lens wide open. Or the person will not have tested the lens systematically. But the person will still say the lens is sharp.
I find that systematic test reports, such as those at Photodo, Pop Photo (if read carefully), or Yoshi's site, are much better guides to lens sharpness than unsystematic users' impressions
