I'll second this. When I was a kid I never heard what it was about other
than celebrating Guy Fawkes failure to blow up the houses of parliament.
The excuse to set off fireworks was the main thing (indeed, the *only*
thing, for kids!)

Same here.

Either way I don't bother with fireworks anymore. I could handle them banning firecrackers, but then they took our sky rockets away. There's just no point anymore.
