I hand-hold both of these AT-X manual focus lenses quite a bit, but it does require decent light to keep the shutter speed up. In dimmer light, I just pop a monopod on the tripod mount (of either lens). The mount on the 100-300/4 is permanently attached, while that of the 80-200/2.8 is removable - however, I always keep the tripod mount on the 80-200 attached, ready to attach a monopod. Fred
