No.  DOF preview merely activates metering, so you can see how the set
exposure differs from what the camera thinks the exposure should be.
(The *ist-D does exactly the same when you activate DOF preview).
[Well, they both stop the lens down, as well.  I hope that's obvious :-)]

Pushing the green button on the *ist-D (or the AE-L button on the *ist-DS;
apparently this is documented in the manual, just not mentioned in the index)
stops down, then sets the shutter speed based on the camera's meter reading.
