Nice work! I always kidded TVabout skinning his 645 once I noted that #7 liked my snake-skinned LXen. I have even thought about the possibility of doing it myself :-)

P.S. You can answer me directly on these questions -
What are you using to cut the leather? This can lead to the difficulty in cutting the leather.
Likewise this can prevent you from using the true skin as a pattern...
What was you source of the leather?

I haven't quite finished yet. There's one more side to go. But I need to figure out how to cleanly cut those little holes and the large tripod hole. The leather is quite thick (and nicely grippy) but it is difficult to cut cleanly.
