Humm, advice.

First don't post the an entire digest back to the list, it's considered bad form, and maybe rude.

Second, if the shop owner won't let you test the lens then pass. From the sounds of it it's impacted
something pretty damned hard. There could be decentering of the lens elements as well as the obvious
scratches and cosmetic damage.
