Hi Peter,

AdAware (Lavasoft) is OK, but it's not, in and of itself, the best, but,
perhaps, the most popular. As suggested by others, it's probably best to
run a couple-three programs since they each have different strengths.
Many's the time I've run AdAware followed by another program, and the
second program will sometimes find stuff that AdAware misses - and vice
versa. Based on comments here this morning, I'm downloading Spybot, and
will have three programs to choose from plus a little utility that
Earthlink offers for free.

Another Good Thing to to is to clean out the Temporary Files cache
frequently, making sure to get rid of assorted cookies that may be
reporting on your activities and contributing to loading the computer with
crap.

Sometimes a machine can pick up spyware and adware that's difficult or
impossible to remove using the vasious removal programs. In that case, for
those running Win XP, a system restore can be very helpful.

Best bet: stay away from porn sites, sites that promote free pirated
software, and similar such venues.
