I found that the *istD without the grip was too light and too small for slow shutter speed shooting. The grip is a definite advantage. I shoot handheld with the *istD and the A400/5.6 quite frequently. And I can shoot at 1/15 with a 50mm lens if I take my time and concentrate on what I'm doing. But I couldn't do it without the grip. There's just not enough mass to anchor the camera.

With my MZ-6 (with FG grip) which is better balanced than *istD
without a grip, I could do 1/20 and get away with reasonable
sharpness. I don't think I can do similar with *istD.

May be I just need to enable myself with the grip.
