Lucky you. ;-) Actually, I "solved" my problem by talking my private school into installing a darkroom, and I donated all my stuff to it to get it going. :-) I also made sure that they installed something like what you described, that actually measured water temp, and moderated it. They only needed to see a few of my negatives to be convinced. ;-) Ah, the heady days of youth.
