Must be my eyes Chan but I can't make out the hamster at all? That dark
blob in the corner?

You need a macro lens - I hereby enable you to go out and buy one.

Shooting small animals is fun but they dart about so quick you have to be
fast. Lots of light is useful to increase depth of field. I photographed
my son's hamster on a little tableau of rocks and twigs out in the sun.
It worked a treat. Get the little bugger out of the cage and give him
some carrot to chew on and you can snap a few front shots.
