A friend of mine has the Sigma in Minolta mount, wide open it provides a text 
book example of mushy corners :-)

That's scary, my A15/3.5 blows the 20/2.8A away in the corners and in overall 
sharpness, I'll have to test them side by side again, maybe my 20mm is cactus?

Agreed, it seems the best option we have for that FL at the moment.
