Simple AF assist lamp would improve that drastically. I heard somewhere that D can assist its focusing using flash, where do I configure that ? Does internal flash support this ?
Yep - whack the camera an AF-S and pop the flash up and it'll strobe for a little while which allows the camera to AF. Generally takes two goes from memory (a rough and an adjust).
