Subject: ist D + slide duplicator + Tri X?
I was thinking...
Is it possible to use unmounted film with a slide duplicator?
and, how easy is it to control the magnification?
It would be interesting to use the istD to quickly "scan" B&W film. Has anyone tried such thing?
The Pentax bellows will mount to the istD, but you want a short expension tube between the bellows and the camera for ease of mounting. I use the shortest tube from the three tube set. This allows the bellow to mount without fouling on the prism overhang.
The arm that mounts the slide copier to the bellows is too short to allow full fram viewing with any lens combination I have attempted, I am considering getting a longer arm machined.
My solution (and it's not the best, but it works) is to put a close up filter on the front of the 77mm lens and use that on the bellows. The longer focal length compensates for the crop of the small sensor, and the close up lens allows the thing to focus close enough that I can use the slide holder (which will take unmounted film, BTW). The front bellows on the slide dulicator is still a wee bit short to attach to the lens, so I made a tube out of black construction paper and put it between the bellows and lens to block light.
