I agree. On Friday I will try and do some tests on a tripod to settle the
matter.

That flare appears regularly in vertical shots when a light bulb (in the
ceiling light) is within proximity. The Pentax exhibits no such flare at
all, and anyone contemplating such a wide angle lens would do well to
avoid the Sigma. It is an 'EX' but it really should be denoted as a 'HOOVER'.

You get what you pay for.
