I bought Microdrives when I got my *ist-D (though at nearly twice
that price for half the capacity - boo, hiss!) But before doing
that I checked with the pro shooters I run into at car races,
who have been shooting digital since the first DSLRs showed up.
Several of those were still using MicroDrives (even several of
the old 340MB models). Nobody felt they were too unreliable
to depend on, and this is folks earning their living from the
photos they deliver.

Their only caveat (and this is one they applied to CF cards as
well) is never to rely on individual file deletion; fill the
device up, then re-format it when it's time to re-use it.
