Excepted from my journal--
2004 Grandfather Mountain Nature Photo Weekend
What a great time. Lots of folks from the Pentax Mailing List were there as well as the regulars came from places as far away as Australia, Germany, Norway, England, Canada, and of course from all over the US. I managed to get over on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Unfortunately I started feeling badly on Friday and left early missing some of the best time with the gang. Nearly 30 internet friends and not a jerk in the group. Some of the nicest people in the world are Pentax users.
Most of the people were pretty much as I thought they were, but there were some surprises. Marnie was tall and elegant when I expected her to be a short housefrou type. Cotty was laid back and easy going, not a wise guy like he pretends to be on the list. AnnSan is a little tiny lady, and a damn good street photographer, rather surprisingly to me as she never mentioned it on the list. Jostein is a big cheerful gentle boyish looking man. I already considered Adelheid a good friend though I had not previously met her in person. Now? Well, I wish she lived someplace nearby. Frank was lots of fun. Tanya seemed exactly the same person she is on the list. Golly, there were so many wonderful people, and I enjoyed being around them.
I already miss being around all the great folks that came to the mountain. I hope this becomes a tradition with the PDML. Those that missed it should know that there is a News Photography oriented Camera Clinic every August at GFM. Check www.grandfather.com for the exact date.
I have posted a few GFM snapshots here. http://journal.graywolfphoto.com/gfm04.html I think I finally got a decent shot of Mark. Only took 4 years.
