The fair comparison is to compare a high quality optical print to digital.
That's just comparing a printer system to an enlarger system.
As I said in another post, there is always going to be an element of apple and oranges.
My suggestion is to take the fewest number of steps from capture to print as is possible, while still using the same material as an end result.
