Really? My digital minilab does decent work, but they get $10 for an 11x14. I can print a far superior 11x 17 for about $4 on my Epson 2200. And I get to keep the full frame without going up another print size.
I expect this depends on where you live.
For me to print an 11x17 at home, I would have to buy a wide body printer, which is somewhere around 400 bucks, and then feed the thing about 10 dollars to make a 12x18.
My lab is expensive for this print size, at around 11 dollars.
Had you bothered to take the same time to profile your digital lab as you did to profile your inkjet before you made a decision about which is better?
