Herb, Herb, Herb, AFAIK this is still a concept. I can't tell if the illustrations are photos of prototypes or if they are CGI. If it ever does get implemented it'll be a long time before customers hold cameras, so I wouldn't fret about the technicalities just yet.
But remember that most 35mm SLRs and the DSLRs derived from them, are too thin for most peoples' preference, so they get padded out by grips. Any extra thickness will simply get absorbed by the grip's thickness.
