I have been using my *istD for almost a year now and still happy with it.

Waiting for the *istD MKII with 8 megapixels, 5 frames/second, 30 image buffer
and using CF-cards, it must be out any moment now :-)

PS:
Larger stores here in the Netherlands have the DS body for 919 Euro's 
including tax, and a kit with 18-55mm Pentax for 1039.
