The metric system has been a legal system of weights and measure in the US since 
1865. In the past they government did not think it had the right to force things 
down our throats. Seems that is an obsolete idea now.

Now just when did you say you Cannuks adopted the metric system?

I think Jimmy Carter decreed that the USA would join step with the rest 
of the world and adopt the metric system.
Unfortunately, he seems to have been somewhat ahead of his time.
