There was a discussion about this recently in the Pentax SLR forum on dpreview. The consensus, I believe, is that it is very unlikely there will be another firmware update for the *istD unless there is a true problem that needs to be addressed. There is no reason for Pentax to update this camera with new function if they are on the verge of announcing a new camera in the next few months, which is what the prevailing thought is at this time.
I agree that it would be nice to have some tweaks to the *istD but I don't think it will happen. Fortunately it is a great camera without the tweaks, in my opinion...
