A good policy, Eleanor.

Those suckers have never really been domesticated like dogs have.
They're only ~pretending~ to be nice to us, and purr and rub their
cheeks and necks on our legs and sleep contentedly on our laps for
hours because they know we'll get sucked into letting them live with
us and feeding them.

Meanwhile, they're plotting our overthrow.

The day will come soon that we'll regret every cat burned at the stake
with a witch, every cat thrown to the bottom of the river in a sack of
rocks, every black cat tormented by teenagers on hallowe'en.

Oh sure, when the granary is overun by rats, then cats are our pals.
When Europe is dying of The Plague, and it's realized that rat-borne
fleas are the cause, then everyone loves little kitty. Otherwise,
cats are seen as satanic beasts, associated with The Devil, Witches,
black magic.

Well, one day they'll get their revenge, and we humans will be the
brunt of millenia of pent-up rage and frustration. Oh yes, their day
will come, and on that day, they'll know who is a cat-person, and who
despises them.

OTOH, maybe I'm wrong and they're just stupid pets.

cheers,
frank (owns one cat, four cats total in the house)
