Flip answer aside the real answer is it depends. The Original K mount 50 f1.4 is supposed to be optically identical to the last version of the M42 50 f1.4. The coatings may be a bit better but they look the same to my eye. The M version was tweaked a bit with new coatings, some think it's not as sharp, as the two previous versions. The overall optical design of the 50mm f1.4's is pretty much the same for every subsequent version with the mechanics being the major difference, though each has supposedly been modified slightly. There is probably more sample to sample variation than actual change in real terms.
Other lenses have been completely redesigned from version to version, or dropped completely

okie dokie, say i have two lenses, both are made by pentax, both are 50mm
1.4, one is screw mount and the other is k mount.
hypothetical situation in place, is there any difference other than the
shape of the mount?

I think I need more information before I attempt to answer this.
