best guess right now is that Pentax has 3% worldwide market share of digital cameras. those manufacturers who don't have a DSLR by now won't be viable digital camera makers in a couple of years. the overall profit margins for digital camera divisions are widely believed to be under 5% for almost everyone. the only exception is Canon at around 20%. the difference is the DSLR sales and their much higher margins than the P&S digitals. digital medium format has an extra year. anyone who doesn't have a dedicated homegrown digital medium format solution by the end of 2005 won't be in that business anymore. for much the same reasons, i believe that Leica as a brand will remain but Leica as a German camera maker is about to end. it's most likely to become a Matsushita Electric Company (aka Panasonic) brand name.
