Another easy way if you have a credit card is to donate online. You can go to redcross.ca directly or via amazon.ca (amazon.com also has a link to American Red Cross).
After donation at redcross.ca, you will receive a Revenue Canada approved pdf tax receipt immediately. Very quick and painless.
