Dave, I've heard nothing but good things about this lens from the viewpoint of *ahem* (insert other camera brand name here) users.
They claim that they would use this lens if they couldn't afford/attain the "L" glass that the (insert other camera brand name here) "pros" use. It's apparently sharp and contrasty.. but as with everything YMMV.
