Kenneth,
Glad you took the time to look and comment.
I have asked my father about the negatives. He threw them all out. I am not sure why the batch I found still survive.
I am planning on getting a print of this made and presenting it to my mother. I am sure that she has forgotten all about this shot.
Likewise, I found some shots my father took of the house where he was born, and of a friend of his driving an oxen cart in Honduras. I hope he likes them and puts them up on the wall of his room.
Yes, I understand about those producing 'art', but I still think that much can be learned from the 'outtakes'.
I am definitely not an 'art' photographer,

Caesar, glad you found those negatives. Your comments really speak to the issue of why "we" take photographs.
In the case of recording family history, photographic elements (compositions, backgrounds etc) can be overlooked in the interest of recording the moment.
In the case of a photographer producing "art", those elements are major considerations in the overall process.

Hi Frank!
I know they are snapshots that you took, but there is no doubt that they will be treasures. This is reminiscent of some of the comments that I have read here recently... yes, I have been lurking of late.
The following commentary is not a reflection of your pictures - whew, got that out of the way :-) I really enjoyed them. And I am sure your family will too.
There were comments made recently about getting rid of photos that were not perfect. You know the 'poor composition', out of focus, etc.
I found a few negatives that ended up in my possession - they were shots taken by my father. He does not recall what cameras he had. This is a link to a scan I made with my 'new to me' scanner - http://groups.msn.com/myrugbypictures/misc.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=3
This a straight scan, no corrections. This is a photo I had never seen before. By most standards this is not a good shot. This is one that would be relegated to the trash bin by some. I am glad that it survived. I am planning on getting a print of it done by my photo store and show it to my folks.
By the way, it is my a photo of me with my mother.
Take plenty of photos, you never know what you might end up with,

Got there this time. The problem lies in the way your URL is displayed in some mail programs. It's lopped off after the @ sign. Lovely family. Looks like you had a nice holiday. Paul
We did have a fantastic Christmas, Paul. For some reason this year I had the thought that we may not have too many more Christmases together as a family. My oldest is 22, and in a few years, if she has kids, she may not be able to make it "home" for Christmas.
I'm very lucky that my ex and I get along well, so I'm invited over for special functions like Christmas, Easter and the like. Lots of children of separated parents aren't so fortunate.
What I posted were just snapshots, but they'll be treasures as we all grow old.
Thanks for your thoughts, Paul,
cheers,
frank
