I would like to know which setting turns off the AF. Perhaps linking AF to AE? Or perhaps "release while charging" set to OFF, or "release w/o CF" set to ON ??? My advice: Find the three basic settings (1-2-3 for *ist D) which you never change - like Normal-Hi Speed-Depth. Set the main MENU to whatever you like - and don't change it ever.

Talked to the guy at Pentax Canada. He had me do a reset on the custom functions and the autofocus is working again. Kooky. He said he had experienced this happening on the *ist-D as well.
