Well, the photo is mine, the results are mine, and if the quality isn't
where it should be, then I'm responsible. I don't see that as an issue of
any sort. Sometimes the results hoover ... and these pics are far from the
best I've done. I still like the guys facial expressions - I find a real
gentleness and warmth there - but I can now see several different crops, a
few more options in PS, and so on.
Actually, B&W would have been, literally, a snap for me. Overexpose by a
couple of stops, hold back some development, and bada-bing, less hassles
with contrast plus an entirely different look and feel to the photo. Not
having as much experience with color film, I was more guessing about how to
handle the situation and hoping the results would be OK ... plus - and I
know this'll sound strange - I was using the built-in camera meter, which
often confuses me wrt the proper exposure.
As for it being about as good as it can get, I suspect not. There's a lot
more that can probably be done in PS, techniques I'm not yet familiar with
nor well skilled at. The photo - and some others I made that day - will
allow for lots of practice with both scanning and Photoshop. Y'know, there
are things I can do now that I couldn't even imagine accomplishing just a
few months ago.
I've gotta try that white shirt reflector idea - or maybe just wear a real
reflector around my neck like a big piece of jewelery - Bling-bling <LOL>
