In the expected place;  it's a private field in the MakerNote
tag in the EXIF information (private tag #41, I believe)

The number seems to be a little higher than the frame number
embedded in the file name, even if you don't reset that (and
it doesn't wrap at 9999; it's a full 32-bit value).
I'd surmise that the difference reflects testing/manufacturing
steps that exercise the shutter and/or the sensor.
