YES!! I know I said earlier in this thread (or one of its offshoots)
that I preferred coffee from a French Press, but I forgot all about my
Silex (that's before they were Proctor Silex) vacuum maker. Since I
moved about 18 months ago, I still haven't unpacked it, but you've
reminded me: I should.

Vintage late 40's or early 50's, the thing makes Great Coffee! I
wouldn't say which I prefer between the French Press and the Silex -
I'd say they're different in taste but equal in quality. But, with
the vacuum, you have the joy of "watching the show", as the water
slowly rises up to the top flask, gurgles for a few minutes, then when
you take it off the heat: whoosh! it's sucked down to the bottom
again. Great fun!!

And, great coffee. If anyone ever sees one at a yard sale or
whatever, get it! You can't go wrong (but make sure you get the
filter as well, or it won't work).

Thanks for the reminder, Bill.

cheers,
frank
