Actually it's not fungus, the rear aspheric element separates, it can look like fungus or simply a bit of haze on a surface or anything
in between. Unfortunately your problem is the same one I have. That's why new parts from Pentax are hoped for.

Peter,

I have a 28-70/4 that I cannot use anymore. Maybe you can use it for
parts? Just an idea. Fungus started growing on one of the back
elements. Everything else is fine on it. Don't ask me how this
happened. I have no idea.

Thanks, I've got one and I've been wondering if I should just junk it...
Keep me posted.

So far nothing good, 3 calls later no definite answer.
I've pretty well given up hope but will have to wait
and see if anyone calls back.
I'll post any positive info right away.

Don

Don Sanderson was going to find out if the lens assembly that contained the separating elements was available from Pentax. I was just wondering if anything ever came of this.
