resolute would look pretty bad up against prints produced using studio MF
digital work-flows these days.

I do wonder how much of the errors you speak of would actually be measurable by any means short of a microdensitometer.
For all that, there is a lushness to large film contact prints that I find hard to describe in words, but once you see it, you no longer need the explanation.
