i have a friend that shoots 35mm, scans with an LS8000, and sometimes 
enlarges to 30x40 from the scans. he also scans XPAN slides too and makes 
roughly equal sized enlargements.

I've heard a lot of negatives about shallow DOF and an impractical film 
holder with the LS8000. Of course - you never know if what you hear is 
accurate or not.
