I also had an FM2, and had the coupling ring replaced with the
earlier FM style one. Cost a little bit but was well worth it. 

The FM/FM2 series were my workhorse cameras for 20 years. They
had a wonderful feel, excellent controls, and were incredibly
rugged. The *istDS is the first digital SLR I've used that gives
me the same feeling in use; not necessarily that they are quite
as rugged, but they feel just right and are immediately "not in
my way". :-)
