First, if the mirror doesn't stick upon initial shutter release
after sitting for a few hours, that is a good sign. Next, lock
the mirror up and inspect the rubber bumper that the mirror
rests on. If it is a nice square rubber block, then it is in
good condition. If it is starting to deform, it is on it's way
out. Also, if you have lost infinity focus, that would be a
symptom of the mirror position being wrong, which would mean the
mirror rest is out of adjustment, which could be a sticky mirror
symptom.
