i have a dual processor 2.8GHz Xeon 800MHz FSB system with 5G of RAM, a 74GB 10K SATA main system drive, a 37GB 10K SATA Photoshop swap drive, and a 1.2TB SATA RAID 5 array for my photos and other useful files. i back up the main system drive using a pair of external 120G USB/Firewire hard drives using Norton Ghost. i back up the RAID 5 array using a pair of Lacie external 500GB USB/Firewire drives and a free file synchronization program called Synchback. this works until my actual used disk space on the RAID array exceeds 500GB. then i have to replace them with Lacie 1TB external USB/Firewire drives. i keep one of each backup drive offsite at a friend's place and swap them roughly once every 2 weeks. with the 1.2TB drive array, i am discarding all of my CD and DVD backups and placing them onto the array. i upgrade my drives frequently enough that they never get too old. same with my backup drives. with RAID 5 and frequent backups, i can recover from a huge number of errors without any hassle. i run a NEC Mitsubishi 2070SB 22" CRT monitor at 2048x1584 in 32-bit mode. it comes with calibration hardware and software and the monitor gets calibrated periodically. although a Xeon 3.4GHz processor system is faster, it's a lot more expensive. using 2.8GHz processors gives a huge bang for the buck. running dual Xeon processors with Hyperthreading enabled gives me 4 virtual processors in Windows XP SP2. it makes manageable using single-threaded Photoshop filters that take a long time (>5 minutes usually). i can do something else processor intensive and still not really affect the total time for the filter to run.

Subject: OT: Minimum requirements for Photoshop CS?
Hello again all,
I thought I would tap into your experience again. I know these are some of the minimum requirements for Photoshop CS:
1) Intel Pentium III or 4 processor
2) Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3 or Windows XP
3) 192MB of RAM (256MB recommended)
4) 280MB of available hard-disk space
5) Color monitor with 16-bit color or greater video card
6) 1,024x768 or greater monitor resolution
I'm thinking of purchasing a new desktop sometime soon and would like to hear from user of Photoshop CS. What type of a "system" would you build today to work with with Photoshop CS?
What type of system do you have to backup your work?
Also, is $299 a good deal for Photoshop CS?
TIA!
