Let us clarify once again: the indignation on this list isn't because he doesn't like Pentax gear. He's entitled to that opinion. My friend shoots Canon, another shoots Minolta, and still another shoots Nikon; that they prefer their gear to mine doesn't really bother me at all. The indignation arises from the fact that he has posted a REVIEW of a product he himself hasn't seen or used. This is dishonest, and speaks very poorly of his integrity as a writer and reviewer. It is the same as giving a report of a book based on what your friends have said about it, and then claiming to have read the book yourself. The report isn't about the book, in that case--it's about what EVERYBODY ELSE says about the book. My schoolteachers would have flunked me easily for turning in a report like that. If we are in any doubt, I'll let Mr. Rockwell speak for himself:
"I have not played with one, only read the press info."
In another place, commenting on the Performance of the *istDS:
"I haven't seen one yet. From what I read..."
And again, in his Recommendations:
"From what little I've read so far..... ... "I could be proved wrong after trying one, however since the price is the same as other cameras I doubt it."
So here he is, speaking authoritatively of a piece of equipment he has NEVER SEEN. This is irresponsible and dishonest behavior, and I strongly condemn it. Incidentally: I agree that most people will end up buying a D70, if only because of its general availability. Pentax DSLRs are not sold as widely as Nikon D70s, nor indeed as Canon ones. -Luigi
