I remember getting the entire Macromedia suite (Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, Freehand) at about 1/4 of the retail price because I'd signed up for a weekend course. The only reason I'd done the course was to learn how to work DW so being able to actually buy it cheaply was a real bonus.
Unfortunately the academic version has license restrictions that meant I eventually had to shell out full price :)
