I do think that the M 40/2.8's bokeh is a bit harsh (see http://plg.komkon.org/m40_28/m40_28.html in the Pentax Lens Gallery). However, I usually (myself, anyway) reserve the term "donut" effect" to the particular bokeh effect that mirror lenses seem to produce (the "hollow circles" they seem to cause). Fred
