I've always used the printed side of glossy print, didn't know you could use the film as well.

* that's a practice when you need to remove an accidentally rewound film from the casette without the special opener - you cut a piece of another film, lick the emulsion side so that its sticky, insert it into the casette the proper side up (emulsion to emulsion) and incant few magic phrases, hoping for the best.
