Thanks, Herb - it sounds like you were able to get a 6 stop increase in film 
speed, so that gives me an idea of how far things can go.

i don't know if i would have used Microdol. i usually go for D-76 undiluted 
at a higher temperature like 75-80F and sometimes with continuous 
agitation. i have periodically shot Plus-X at EI 8000 for the grain 
effects. have to develop right away or else the latent image fades. comes 
with moderate fogging though, and the image is quite flat. haven't shot B&W 
in a long time though.
