8MP vs 6MP is simple to calculate in terms
of larger print sizes while maintaining
same image quality

your print can now be ~15% wider AND ~15%
taller with same absolute (dpi)
quality level.

Better explanation, as it takes interpolation into account.

I don't know how you can come up with "1 inch bigger"

I was being somewhat conversational, and imprecise I suppose.
The actual value would be an inch and a half more on the long side, and an inch longer on the short side, more or less.
The sensor size in pixels is a specific number bigger than 6MP SLR sensors, which are around 2000x3000 pixels.
In Pentax's world the actual value is 2008x3008.
The 8MP sensor is 2304 x 3456.
My industry standard is 320 ppi, so, before resorting to interpolation, yer good for about 1 more inch in both directions of image size.
A bit more really, but I don't need to know this so precisely.
The presumption I made is that a person is printing at 100% resolution, as I specified uninterpolated.
Below native resolution, you are tossing pixels away from both, so it matters not at all.
At least thats how I see it.
YMMV
