There's no room for the mechanical linkage. It's a very tight fit.

So you can't just use a m42 lens? You need to check to make sure it has a
switch? Is there no adaptor that will take care of this?

Yes, you are right. M42 lenses are indeed different from K mount lenses in
this respect. Sorry about the confusion I may have caused.

When's the last time you used an M42 lens? I don't think so.

Auto/manual switch is not needed, the aperture will close or open as you
turn the aperture ring.

Aside from the obvious superiority of the coatings on the SMC Takumars,
not all M42 lenses have an auto manual
switch, which will be necessary if you want to use the lenses at any
aperture other than their maximum.

Good to know. Is there any reason to buy the Pentax over one of the
other
brands? Basically, is it ok to go cheap on this item?

They work just fine with the proper adapter, which Pentax and others
make.

I saw the reply to my question about the use of Leica lenses. Do you
have
the same problem with the M42 lenses as well? I notice they are quite
inexpensive these days and wouldn't mind adding a few if they would
work
correctly.
