There's a rational for keeping the 1.7. The instructions that come with the Autobellows M states that
the M 1.7 50mm has a flatter plane of focus than the 50 f1.4. Since all the 1.7's have the same basic
optical formula as all of the 1.4's as well. You could assume that the 1.7 would give better results on
a bellows or lens extensions. But that's just an assumption.
The 50f/2s seem to be better in this regard than the 1.7s.
Note I have not rigourously tested this, it is just an opinion from using the lenses for general photogrpahy.
Often, a curved field can be used to advantage.
I wouldn't worry about it overmuch, unless you are doing copy work. There are other aspects of lens choice more important.
